Recently, our nest has grown with doula and photographer Olena joining the team. If you are in the middle of your doula research, you will notice that most doulas work solo and are perhaps wondering why we have chosen to work in a partnership. These are the 5 best reasons to hire a doula partnership: 1. You will know your doula Birth doesn't begin on anyone's schedule. It happens when it happens. That means that there is a small possibility that two clients end up birthing at the same time. For a solo doula, she would have to call in back up who you most likely will not know and not have any relationship built. In a partnership, if one doula is already at a birth, the other doula would come to you. You will already know both doulas and built that relationship. Both doulas will know your birth plan and know what's the most important things to you and your family. 2. Double the knowledge and experience Although we both share the same philosophy and support moms in similar styles, we have our own life experiences and knowledge that we get to bring to the table and share with our clients. 3. A well rested doula Life on call is not easy and many doulas can experience burn out. By choosing doulas in a partnership, we get to split our on call times. This makes us be able to live our lives, make plans with our kids, go on dates with our husbands and even have a glass or two of wine! It also let's is sleep with out having to be half awake in case our phone rings! This means, when we are on call, we are happy and well rested and that's a BIG advantage for a birthing mother! 4. For longer births, you will always have doula support Sometimes birth takes awhile. Sometimes it takes days. By hiring our doula partnership, we can take shifts. This means your doula will always be rested, both physically and mentally, while still making sure you have that special connection with your doulas since you already know us. 5. We are BOTH birth photographers Most birth photographer doulas work solo. So in the event that the doula is at another birth and needs to call back up, that back up doula may not be a photogrpaher , even though that is what you signed up for. By both of us being birth photographers as well, you know that whoever shows up to your birth, you will be able to have beautiful images that capture those special moments and tells your story. What does the doula partnership look like? When you contact The Maya's Nest, we will schedule our complimentary consultation with both doulas so that you get the opportunity to get to know and connect with BOTH of us. We offer two prenatals in our birth packages. The prenatals are split up, with one doula handling one prenatal and then switch. This gives you the opportunity to get to know us even better on a one on one basis. We are both on call from 38 weeks onwards with the week split up for our on call times. Whoever is on call when you go into labour will be the doula who supports you. After the birth of your baby, the doula who attended your birth will be the one at your postpartum visit. If you received doula support from both doulas, then both will visit together. We love any opportunity for a baby snuggle! THIS IS AWESOME <3 I'm on a hiatus from regular doula work right now but when I return it will definitely be in a partnership like this. It's way more sustainable for the doulas and it has a lot of advantages for the birthing family. Great write-up!
